The BBC have released their 1968 version of The Hound of the Baskervilles on PAL format video and Region 2 DVD. The Hound of the Baskervilles stars Peter Cushing as Sherlock Holmes, a role he had already played for Hammer 10 years previously.

The release is part of the company's special interest range ( see ordering information below), which also includes the 1977 Count Dracula starring Louis Jordan, and John Gorrie's version of The Picture Of Dorian Gray, first screened in 1976, which stars the late Sir John Gielgud and the charismatic Jeremy Brett.

A classic battle between good and evil ensues... but how do you kill an opponent who is already dead?

James Thomas in The Daily Express wrote of the drama in 1977: ‘Spectacular… terrifying… it certainly sent me to bed shivering’, as was Darren Slade, writing in Talking Pictures: ‘Lavish… an unsung classic… an inventive and gripping vampire movie, heavy with symbolism, which makes the genre seem new again… Director Philip Saville’s visuals invest every shot with atmosphere… the production looks sumptuous.’

Colour / LIMITED EDITION

Forget anti-aging cream: Wilde’s witty horror suggests a more effective way of remaining young-looking, although the side-effects can be murder...
