Hammer Films on DVD

Anchor Bay, the American company that distributes videos of restored Hammer classics, is preparing its next batch of releases. The films are re-mastered under the supervision of film producer/director William Lustig, a task he regards as a labour of love.

This year's releases will include A Challenge For Robin Hood (1967), The Viking Queen (1967), Slave Girls (also known as Prehistoric Women, 1968) and The Vengeance Of She (1968). Each film will be presented in its original aspect ratio, and will come with supplemental trailer material.

Anchor Bay issued their first Hammer-related DVDs in late 1998 when a number of existing laserdisc presentations were re-released in the new high quality digital format. Dracula Prince Of Darkness (1966), Quatermass And The Pit (1967) The Legend Of The 7 Golden Vampires (1974), and The Satanic Rites Of Dracula (1974) are currently available in region-free format, each with a supplemental episode of compilation series The World of Hammer as a bonus.

The Anchor Bay Hammer range are available on DVD, VHS and laserdisc from The Laserdisc Division, prices are generally 20-30% less than normal US retail. Videos and laserdiscs purchased from the States require NTSC compatible playback systems.
