I see that Ciaran Hinds has a part in new production of The Woman In Black. I always thought that he'd make a great Hammer star. He's such a good actor and so charismatic. He'd make a great Duc de Richelieu, Quatermass or even vampire! Hammer, don't let him go!!!
One of the finest British horror/fantasy films of all time. Christopher Lee's turn as Duc de Richelieu was played to perfection. It's a shame he didn't play more heroic types. The film has superb pace and atmosphere and is a guilty pleasure of mine. If Hammer were to remake this, then Lee would be incredibly hard to beat. The role would require charisma and gravitas on an epic scale. Dennis Wheatley's Strange Conflict would make a great sequel.
The recent Optimum Releasing Region 2 DVD release is supposed to have 8 minutes cut from it, although the older Anchor Bay Region 1 edition (coupled with The Reptile) is reputed to have this footage intact. Most Hammer fans are collectors at heart, so it's in everyone's interest to make these discs as complete as possible. I have mine on order. I've only ever seen clips of this little seen classic. Can't wait!
I have the Region 1 Anchor Bay release of Satanic Rites, which seems to be the best version around on DVD at present, although it may be difficult to get hold of. A new Region 2 release would be very welcome. (Hammer – please ensure this is uncut and in the correct aspect ratio. Recent R2 releases of Lost Continent and Brides Of Dracula have been either cut or presented incorrectly.) The irony is that many of the best DVD versions are only available on Region 1. The Hammer Horror Series, Icons Of Suspense and Icons Of Horror sets have been wonderful and are highly recommended
One of the best UK science-fiction movies of the last forty years. It's a personal favourite! If Quatermass is brought back for a new audience, then please keep it as a period piece! Part of Bernard Quatermass's charm is his dogged determination and intelligence when pitted against authority and adversity. An older actor with immense gravitas would be needed to fill the great man's legendary shoes. A period setting would allow Quatermass to use his wits rather than some convenient gadget. Could be wonderful! How about Ian McKellen or Kenneth Cranham? Needs to be scary too!
If Brian Clemens could kick-start this again it would be absolutely wonderful! Maybe a cross-over with Father Shandor from Dracula Prince Of Darkness could be the start of a spin-off?
This is one of my favourite Hammer films from the 70s. It's so underrated and so much better than Dracula AD 1972. It almost feels like an episode of The Avengers, but with more horror and intrigue. Peter Cushing and Freddie Jones are wonderful as usual. The tone of this also reminds me of Channel 4's Ultraviolet series created by Joe Ahearne in the 90s. If Hammer ever wanted a new franchise to launch them into the new century, then an update or remake of Ultraviolet would be perfect. It's a mixture of Satanic Rites mixed with The X-Files.

The trailer looks suitably impressive and creepy. It'll be nice to see a Hammer movie set on European soil again. I've already pre-ordered the DVD.

One of Hammer's best. Check out the the 'Icons of Suspense Collection: Hammer Films' available on Region 1. It's a bargain.
