If the remake is done well, the film has the potential to be huge. I saw the original when it was first released (& have a copy on video). I recently re-read the book which is masterfully written. In spite of being familiar with the story - read the book, seen the film and the play - I am still - still, to this day - nervous watching it alone at night. Am very much looking forward to seeing Hammer's take on it, and Dan Radcliffe as Kipps. The story is strong & stands on its own, please keep any special effects to a minimum.
