This TV comedy was one of the funniest sitcoms of all time, however, the movie was not. The script is just a load of old gags from the series glued together with no real story. Christopher Strauli is also a poor replacement for the late Richard Beckinsale and, although funny in parts, was a complete waste of time making.

My father found the new film rather disappointing compared with the 1989 TV version. I don't think he liked the alteration to Susan Hill's original story. However, I enjoyed it myself.

It has always been frustrating that there has never seemed to be a genuine UK DVD release of this great film. Just imports from Germany seem to be available. Perhaps one day there will be a blu-ray edition.

It's a very enjoyable Hammer film, with excellent performances from the main characters. However, Christoper Lee does come into it a bit too late; the creature doesn't appear that much in the movie either, but a decent ending to the picture, though.
