My father found the new film rather disappointing compared with the 1989 TV version. I don't think he liked the alteration to Susan Hill's original story. However, I enjoyed it myself.
It has always been frustrating that there has never seemed to be a genuine UK DVD release of this great film. Just imports from Germany seem to be available. Perhaps one day there will be a blu-ray edition.
It's a very enjoyable Hammer film, with excellent performances from the main characters. However, Christoper Lee does come into it a bit too late; the creature doesn't appear that much in the movie either, but a decent ending to the picture, though.
